Foam Board: Foam board also known as mounting board, or foam core is a backing material and mounting material widely used in framing art. It's virtually weightless and
rigid enough to be ideal for framing works of art or posters. It adds
little weight to the overall piece. Foam Board is made of white
polystyrene foam consisting of three layers.
Mounting Board: The backing material which is used back or provide support to the artwork. Typically, the artwork is mounted to the mounting board, or hinged from the window mat opening.
